Senate Files

Holdings and trades

What 131 senators report owning and owing, and the 41,402 trades on their reports, from the Senate's financial disclosures filed since Jan 5, 2016 (annual reports for 2015 on; a few late amendments reach further back). Every value is a band the senator ticks ($1,001–$15,000 and up), so every total here is a range. 3,220 of the trades are only on paper reports the Senate posts as scanned images: we read them.

What they're worth

Each serving senator's latest annual report: their assets' bands added up, less their debts', from the least they could be worth to the most, ranked by the most. Spouses' and dependent children's holdings are included; a home isn't (the reports leave it out). A log scale: each gridline is ten times the one before.

All 131 senators who filed, as a table

Latest e-filed annual report. "+" marks a band with no top ("Over $50,000,000"), so the high end is at least that. Paper years: reports filed on paper, not yet read.

Against what their state's households earn

How many times over each senator is worth a typical household's yearly income in the state they represent; hover a half for the numbers.

AKMEVTNHWAIDMTNDMNILWIMINYRIMAORNVWYSDIAINOHPANJCTCAUTCONEMOKYWVVAMDDEAZNMKSARTNNCSCOKLAMSALGAHITXFL

For each serving senator, the gray diamond is a typical household's yearly income in the state they represent (the median, Census Bureau American Community Survey 2024), and the bar is what the senator is worth. On this scale each gridline is ten times the last, so the dotted gap shows how many times over: one gridline apart is 10×, three apart is 1,000×. Widest gap first.

What they own

The assets on senators' latest annual reports, matched across reports by ticker (or by name when there's none): by how many senators hold each, or by what they hold of it together, the middle of their bands added up. Real estate, business stakes and Treasuries are left out: those share names, not assets.

How late they report

The STOCK Act gives senators 45 days at most to report a trade on a periodic transaction report. Of 15,583 such trades, 2,322 (15%) were reported later. Counted to the first report that listed the trade (an amendment restating it later doesn't make it late).
